These are some cherry platters that I finished this week. They are all 14" by 2" and finished with BLO-shellac- and poly.

All comments and questions are appreciated.

Those are beautiful. I've been looking for a little platter inspiration, and I think I may have found it. Thanks for posting these.

Pete, looks like you are on a platter production run!! Nice looking pieces, and that BLO and shellac really warm them up.

Those are very nice from a turners point of view, and yes will look even better in some time, yes nice work :-))

There's this thought though that users of these platters will have some concern with the crevices of the rings you turned in them, just some experience I have had with buyers and sharp corners in use pieces, put here just to think about, and in no way trying to put down these beautiful turnings

Three winners. I like them all. The cherry looks great and Steve is right, they will look great in the future as the cherry darkens.

That is a wonderful grain pattern. I like the shape. I keep meaning to turn a platter, but after I rough out the blank.....a bowl pops out.

Wonderful job on the platters Pete. Love the grain. Great finish.

Was that buffed?

If you are South of Steve you must be a troll.

Very nice. And I'll beat they were fun to make, hence the production line effect. We had a demonstrator at our club meeting in July demonstrate turning platters, since then I have made about 10.

Keep em coming.

Yes Quinn, they were buffed but I am not very good at that.

On the other note, I am more of a curmudgon than a troll.

I love those platters, really nice. That's the type of thing I'm sure I'd be making, if I ever get around to getting a lathe!
