Cedar with african blackwood collar and detail ring.

~7 inches tall and 3.5 wide.

This is the first piece that I completed with my new monster articulated rig. It is a sweet little tool that makes hollowing a breeze. The detail ring is African blackwood dust mixed with epoxy. Finished with shellac and tung oil. I'll buff it in a week or so.

That's a real eye popper. Beautiful! I would have to look at from at least fifteen feet away as I have a severe reaction to cedar. But on the other hand, I have never seen cedar look so fine...

I keep coming back to look at this. There's something compelling about it. It's just a beautiful piece of work. And I love those golden streaks in the wood.

David,
That is the nicest turned cedar I've ever seen! Beautiful form and contrast too. You're on fire, and I like (read want to be) your willingness to experiment.
Randy told me Friday that if people would quit bugging him, he'd get some work done....:o My mini's cueing up in the rotation!

Nah... Just mixing it up a bit. The photo was my wife's selection... A friend of ours had a 'pimps and hos' party for his 50th birthday, and this was my pimp uniform.

Thanks for the nice comments everybody.

I keep coming back to look at this. There's something compelling about it.

The compelling part of it is that the pattern in the piece exactly matches the form of the piece. My guess is that he somehow planned it that way, but anyway you did a helluva nice job, Dave! That's a keeper.

This has to be your finest work so far David. If it isn't...I want to see the other. Your form, proportions, color, and overall design are just flat-out perfect. Congratulations!:)
