Nice job, Chris. The joinery looks perfect to me, and it's a great wood combination.

That's crazy! I mean in a good way. But it would drive me crazy trying to make one. You guys that do segmented work might be able to help me in my quest to seek patience.

That's a beauty. I like the simple segmented designs like this and contrasting woods make it even better.

Chris, very good joinery on this one, and a nice vase!

David, since there is no way I could ever accomplish segmentation, I had to come up with a defense mechanism. So, my theory on the "seggie" guys, is that their view of the world is backward - I mean instead of taking stuff apart, they spend their entire existence putting stuff back together - I mean, does that make sense?!?!?:D:D;) They just ain't normal!!

Very nice. I like the shape of the vase. I love the segmented pieces. The multitude of disciplines used is intriguing to me, if not overwhelming. But, at the rate I blow things up, I am certain that for now this type of work would lead to a quick mental demise. I really respect and appreciate seeing the work the "seggies" do.

The vase is about 7 inches tall and about 3.75 inches wide at the feature ring.

My bent toward segmented work is motivated by poverty. I cannot afford large blanks of wood, and have just started pilfering firewood piles and roughing out green blanks. Working on some mulberry and soft maple now.

4/4 lumber, like hard maple and oak, is inexpensive. My local woodworking supply store has specials on shorts for $2 to $3 a bf. I can afford that stuff.

Segmenting is easy, for the plain rings. A good table saw jig is essential. I use an Excel spreadsheet to calculate the cut lengths, (I am too cheap to buy software).

I need to experiment with more complicated feature rings.

I have been doing some open segment work lately, will post some in a day or so.

I would have thought that your vase was twice the size that you say it is. It is very well proportioned.
