This is the first of my walnut haul I got a while back. I sold it today along with a walnut platter that I didn't get a picture of:) The bowl is 15" by 6" and finished the John Keeton method.

Pete - that looks great! Congrats on the sale!

OK...........I'll bite - what is the John Keeton method of finishing? I thought that meant a double ended finial and lacquer!?

Pete, we were out with friends last nite, and missed this one! Beautiful bowl, and that walnut is really nice. The BLO and shellac do bring out the warmth of walnut, and while I am honored to have been credited with that finish, it is ancient - well, except for the poly part! We are just two of thousands that use it.:)

John (Keeton), do you pad on the shellac or brush it? And how many coats?

One problem I often have with shellac is getting an uneven finish and then screwing it up more when I try to smooth out any areas that aren't consistent which sometimes means burning the finish and getting some streaking. Any tips you can share?

thanks in advance.

Oh, and Pete, nice bowl!
