Like clockwork every mid-August, Earth slams into a giant cloud of debris left behind each time the comet Swift-Tuttle neared the sun. Hitting the atmosphere at speeds of almost 100,000 miles (160,000 kilometers) an hour, the meteors burn up and produce streaks of light that each last just a fraction of a second. This year the sky show will peak between 3 p.m. ET August 12 and 2 a.m. ET August 13. A very thin, waxing crescent moon will set about an hour after sunset, leaving behind a dark night sky for the Perseids.

Should be a pretty good display if you have a clear sky.

Last night was not bad either but the mosquitoes ended up driving me back into the house ;)

Didn't see much here on the way home. I'm planning on checking out again for a few before hitting the rack.

We had a beautiful warm night with zero clouds. I went out twice for about 20 minutes each at 2:15 and 4:20. There was much more activity at 4:20. I lost count of how many I saw. Even saw a green colored one which was sort of odd. It was tough getting up this morning to go to work.

Lee,

Probably had quite a bit of copper in it...

HA! We've had nothing but clear skies, heat and NO rain for months (literally) and on the one night of a meteor shower, we had rain...go figure.

Um, not a complaint, just poor timing that's all. I'll take missing ALL the meteor showers for the rest of the year to get some more rain.

One. I saw one. And the missus missed it.

You'll be getting your money back. Just submit form #1777R-33J -M.

It was a bit overcast here but I did spot 2 in about 20 minutes.

Stood outside until I had a stiff neck, and all I saw were the usual UFO's... Wait till next year, but first watch 'Day of the Triffids' then go out and watch the meteors again.
