I've done a search for Nameplates & although there was some good info I didn't find out if there is a standard size for one. I am going to make my wife a Desk name plate using Corian on a Cherry base. I've got a cnc machine plus my laser so I ought to be able to make something. Any tips would be appreciated.

Sounds like you're headed in the right direction. About 10" wide and approximately 2 to 2.5" high. Consider a gold paint fill.

Allow a margin all around the name--it'll look more professional.

You can check the JDS online catalog for ideas.

I've been trying some Corian work recently and I suggest unless you have something that you really need to laser, do all the work on the CNC router. It's much faster. I find .02" to be a nice depth to engrave.
