Has anyone tried resawing with a metal-wood band saw, set to slow speed?
I have 1/2" & 3/4" blades, and was just wondering if anyone has found a difference with the slower blade speed.

I've never tried it at metal speeds, but I can't imagine there being any advantage. My machine has one speed (~4500 FPM), seems to be fine for anything (except metal of course).

I would think time and cut quality both. If you look at bandsaws with good resawing capability or dedicated resaws they all run 4000+ fpm. This coupled with an aggressive blade will give you good cutting economy (that place where speed and quality come together). I have a Delta 28-2xx w/m bandsaw and have never tried slowing it down for cutting in wood. I have "resawn" 8/4 boards on our timberking sawmill and boy howdy, that will get the job done.

I've run 12"x12" oak dunnage through the big Marvel at work, to make wedges, with the speed set to automatic, and the material knob set to aluminum. It worked fine. Of course the cutting fluid was turned off.:D
It had no problems whatsoever, and speed wasn't an issue.

For the home shop though, I wouldn't resaw at metal speeds.
