I am building a hall seat. My basic plan is "Nawm's" NYW (http://www.newyankee.com/getproduct.php?0103) but I am modifying his plan incorporating an inlay from Woodworking magazine Issue #7 WW (http://www.fwmagazines.com/product/digital-issue-woodworking-magazine-issue-7/woodworking-magazine)
My problem is that the plans cal for 2 1/2" styles and rails. I have increased the styles to 4" to accommodate the inlay. My question is, can I still use the 2 1/2" rails or would the proportions look weird?
If I increase the rails width, I have to take away from the included 24" mirror or from the 26" book matched rear panel which I think would look strange. The piece has a rail at the top, a 24" mirror, another rail and then the book matched panels with a center style. This then terminates in a seat.
Can I get away with 2 1/2" rails or should I use matching 4" rails and cut the mirror and panel 1 1/2" shorter? This project is my wife's birthday gift and besides having $350+ in wood, has 40 hours so far in labor.
