Once again I have used my laser in association with food! This time it was for my son's birthday party! What's a shark without any teeth? We have themed birthdays in my house and I typically make birthday cakes for the children. We went with a shark theme this year. We needed teeth and the laser came in handy yet again!
Enjoy!
Yes, I guess I should list materials... The teeth are made of 1/8" White Acrylic.

Very creative! What was the teeth "material" you cut on the laser?

Have you tried engraving sugar cookies? By the time I tried it my kids were too old to appreciate it.

Sugar cookies? I'd have to bake them first. I am not Suzy Homemaker. I guess I get the award for worst mom. I might buy some and etch them. I have etched rocks with transformers face and a web. I guess I'm the worst mom...

Nope, anyone who makes shark cakes with engraved teeth, and engraves transformers faces on rocks get the award for BEST mom! Hope your son had a very happy birthday! (and I hope he didn't get injured on the teeth! lol)

I don't know if this is relevant but I have just made some of these little sugar bicycles.
They were not 'cut out' as such, they were printed by the 'Selective Laser Scintillation' process http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Selective_laser_melting_system_schematic.jpg
Not very high quality, I know, but it is work in progress and my candy products can only get better (or eaten :) ).

Hi Andrea,
I run my laser from GCode programs, pre-setting the laser power and using axis speed to control cutting depth / penetration etc.
This bike was made in two layers (using a stacking frame system) and was drawn with the same vector toolpath I had used previously to cut the same part from acrylic. This is what it looked like when the top frame was removed.

That's way cool Paul. Have you tried colored sugar? That would be very cool!
Amy, thanks for the kind words. Nobody was hurt by the teeth. I made them out of two pieces, so before I cut the shark open, I pulled out his dentures!

No yet. I am currently making a new 'building jig' before proceeding further but colored sugar sounds great, thanks for the suggestion.

If I had my micro sd card adapter, I'd upload a picture of a Hershey chocolate bar I engraved to read "Happy 30th Birthday" in a nice script font...you get good results with low power, higher speed with one or two passing depending. I was disappointed with the [lack of] smell...thought the office would have smelled like smores.

Hope I did this right. I saw the Domo Kun pics and had to add my Domo Kun project. It's very simple and is popular with my friends with MP3 players and such.
