Good Morning,
Well, I hope it hasn't been as hot where you are as it has been here. We've been doing all we can to stay cool and we just go inside after lunch time to stay out of the hottest part of the day.

Been working on getting my shop cleaned up once again. Seems like it a never ending process of messing it up and cleaning it up....but....I'm afraid that my shop stays more messed up than it does cleaned up.

The day job has been taking it's toll and I'll be working every day this week and I go oncall next week so I'll work every day next week....so I guess you could say that I'll be glad when the next 2 weeks are over.

Making plans on making my daughter her hope chest this fall. She hasn't decided on a design just yet, but I guess we'll see.

That's it for me, so what did YOU do this past weekend?

Best of weeks to you all.

I delivered this mission HDTV cabinet to a satisfied client. Life in woodworking is a whole lot easier when you have a great client.
Part of an ordered Mission collection.http://sitebuilder.cgi.netfirms.com/extras/public/photos.cls/serve?id=0806f33517dda5527c5417966181d1772576&ts=20100729161947&width=960&height=738&filter=none&accountId=ANFI20IN250B&instanceId=46222a0db9202caf25f34a9fa569da35&slideview=true

I spent Sunday getting ready for a major cleaning of the shop/garage. Built some 2'X8' x 4 high shelves out of 2X4s and 1/2 OSB. Way over built for what they will hold but better safe then sorry. Got the frames done and the OSB cut before the neighbor dragged me off to drink beer with him. It was getting too late to start the install anyway. I am going to need a full day to put these up as they represent a major re-org and will require most of the 'stuff' to be removed from the garage. However, once they are up I expect to have lots more room as it will get a lot of stuff off the floor.

I always struggle with keeping the shop/garage organized in the summer months. Since I don't do much wood working at this time of the year, things tend to get piled up and not put away. During the winter months it is much easier as I spend more time in this area.

I spent another weekend working on the new (to us) house. It's been a long six weeks of taking ceiling texture down, taking out the old (poorly) built-in entertainment center and removing the old floor. I have the 1/2" CDX plywood cut and laid over the 3/4" particle board sub-floor upstairs and the vapor barrier and some of the first layer of plywood down in the lower level. If all goes well I'm hoping to begin shooting the actual floor down this weekend.

Brian, that piece is gorgeous!

I spent the weekend getting the basic floor framing done for the treehouse I'm building for my kids. I've got to raise the height of a couple of the posts (lap joints), and wrap a 2*6 band around the top of the posts and brace it like the lower braces. This damn thing ain't goin' nowhere!

I happen to think my framing is rather elegant. :)

And since someone was discussing paint, that's a couple of coats (in some places) of the Behr deck and fence paint/stain. As much as I expected crap, it's actually pretty good paint.

Hope to have the rest of the thing done by next weekend (taking a couple of days off), as my son is turning 6 and wants to use it on his birthday.

Question: Hard to see but is part of the framing screwed into that tree?

Thks for the kind words

Ah, the weekend...too short it was. As usual.

I delivered the equestrian jumps I completed last weekend. They will initially be used (after finishing by the recipient) as Bat Mitzvah decorations and then will transition to the farm for use during training and shows. Not "fine woodworking", but satisfying, especially when I saw the huge smile of the young lady who they were made for the other morning when she saw them for the first time...

I also cleaned up the shop so I can be ready for the next project...I believe I have another tack trunk commission coming in very shortly.

The rest of the weekend was spent at the barn for lessons and other activities. Professor Dr. SWMBO entered into a lease on the recently rescued Amish draft horse that she's been helping to rehabilitate...they get along famously and we felt it was best to legitimize the arrangement. So Elvis has a "sorta" brother now...this is Lucky one month in since his rescue. He was a bag of bones then and has come a long way already! This is an older horse with the sweetest disposition...a real pleasure to be around.

We also went to a local amusement place to begin celebrating our older daughter's 15th birthday...in between raindrops, that is.

Yes, with two 1/2 inch by 6 galvanized lag screws.

I walked into the shop to get some tools to work on the lawn tractor Sunday morning...does that count??:p Spent 15 minutes trying to level out the mowing deck only to find the left rear tire was flat.:o:o:o Guess my mind is not with it this week. So after I mowed, I went in and tried to just cater to my wife. Jim.

Bought a Leigh dovetail jig. Spent the weekend struggling with that tool's learning curve.
