Well I got some shop time in today. I needed to finish up some presents for the grand kids and the neighbor kids so I make so magic wands for them.

I also made some cutting boards out of some corian I got a few weeks ago.

Thanks for looking.

Dick,

I may have missed it from earlier threads, but I was wondering how you obtain your Corian? Is it very hard to work with? I was thinking of maybe making a cutting board as it seems it would be pretty good for that purpose.
Thanks, and the "magic wands" look pretty good too.

Karl I got mine from a friend, but he went around and just asked shops that make corian counter tops if he could have their scraps. The last one gave him 2 pickup trucks full of all sizes and all colors of cutoff's. Which he gave me a lot of. :D Not everything is big enough to make cutting boards but this stuff glues together with CA glue pretty easy. Cut straight edges, clamp together and then use Thin CA glue and let it wick though. I put wax paper under it to stop if from sticking to the bench. Then I use activator on it and flip it over and repeat the wicking from the other side and the use the activator again.

Any carbide blade will cut and route the corian. I have an oscillating sander that I use to sand the edges before routing t remove bandsaw marks. Then I sand it too 220 (I didn't have any 320 for my ROS) and then use a wet and dry pad to finish it up, rinse it off and let it dry. Then put a coat of olive oil on it and wipe off the excess and then set it a side for 24 hours. The oil stops the finger prints from showing up on it, depending on the color of the corian. I guess it's kind of like treating a wood cutting board.

Have fun :)

Thanks Dick. :)

I'm going to check the phone book and see if there are any installers in the area. Out in the frozen tundra, like I am, I may be lucky to find one or two that install, but we'll see. Hopefully, I will be able to get the same deal :D your friend gets if I find some.

Great looking wands! I also have made a few of those for the kid in the neighborhood. Glad to see you are getting some shop time.
