Why don't they make drum sanders like jointers with the drum underneath the work? I think this would be a much easier system to make as the sanders work best taking very small passes. The head could be tilted slightly when needed to sand almost double the width and still be fully supported instead of being cantilevered the way they are on the current design.

Ahh the things we think of when we should be sleeping.:rolleyes:

They do. Klingspor sells one and woodworkers haven (I think that’s it) sells a kit that is the same thing except drive train and cabinet. These aren’t exactly like jointers but they are more like jointers than the cantilever type sanders. I’ve seen the wooworkers haven kit in action, I was impressed with how not-streaky the stock was compared to my performax.
