John, The contrast in the wood is wonderful! I have not seen many with the sapwood through the crotch like that! You used the wood to it's best potential!

Great job,

Jeff

Very pretty. A while back, I did a platter from a crotch and it ended up warping at the feather. I didn't let it dry enough. You're showing me what I coulda had!:o

I like the rim work too. Nice Job John.

That is a beautiful chunk of walnut, and your finish method was PERFECT!, IMO. Detail clean and not distracting.

John - very impressive platter! Pretty wood and I love the sense of motion the grain radiates! Reminds me of a comet!

Very nice work! Looking forward to seeing what you turn next!

The first thing I saw when I looked at that, and don't let this take away the beauty of it, was a big walrus looking at me through a porthole with one eye open, his snout pressed aginst the glass. He's almosr upside down. No I haven't been drinking.... much.

Somebody forgot to put the lid back on their lacquer!:D

Nice one. Good form and a really special piece of wood. Platters are one (more) thing I haven't tried yet, but are getting high on the TODO list. I'll have to see if that any of that cherry is wide enough....

Wow. Gotta love the colors of that Walnut. Nice job capturing the figure in this wood too.

I thought the walrus sighting was hilarious! Laughed right out loud and everything. :D

Thanks, all, for your kind words. I have entered this platter in the AAW Forum contest that ends in a few days. BTW, all of the vitriol has FINALLY been shut down, there, so it seems safe to venture on over if you are so inclined!
