Thanks, I'll give this a try. I'd like to surprise mom with a custom dog relief switchplate. I'm going to use the laser for everything since I do not have any other tool, so I guess I will taper the screw holes using different power settings and concentric circles.

I think it might be more aesthetically pleasing if you mark where the holes should go with a rastered crosshair or circle and drill them out with a countersink bit. Just my 2c.
