What just wondering is this would be suitable for extraction for my Galvo (cutting card and paper mostly but some wood)?

I will house it outside (hopefully) as I am getting a shop built. Just wanted to know if its the right route to go down.

Except for the color, it looks identical to the Harbor Fright version a number of us use (including me, for the moment)... works just fine. You'll probably have a better time with it since it will be outside... it's LOUD!

How loud is loud? I dont want my neighbours trying to kill me for the noise.

Is it fine running for long periods?

90dB+... it's about the same as one of those gas-powered blowers used by yard maintenance crews (maybe a bit quieter). I wouldn't want to hear it all day as a neighbor, but I'm noise sensitive.

Aww you delicate flower you! No im just kidding. 90 dB isnt too bad. I think I will get some sound proofing for the housing it will go in. Hopefully that should mute it a little.

I have a Penn State DC-3XL 1.5HP 4" pipe model and it is NOT loud, it is rather enjoyable actually. The whoosh of the air is much louder than the motor itself and I have it sitting right next to my table on the floor.

I believe sign warehouse sold these with their laser machine packages so they might have some new ones or I suggest search craigslist nationally for them second hand. I think they are still obtainable directly from Penn State (http://www.pennstateind.com/store/DC3XX.html).

You can simply use the blower without the bag.

Many people will ship from Craigslist. I myself am waiting for a heavy portable Norcold 12V compressor cooler freezer which I have been searching forever for. Cant beat a good deal and the campervan will be very happy with this.

For those that may not be familiar with using Google as a tool, you can do a site search in order to find things across the nation. I even use Google search agents all the time to find things I want or need, such as my laser itself.

Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1Q88qdahQ0) is a video to compare the sound levels of the Penn State air blower running against the other equipment.

LOL, well that stinks... I'm at work and my office computer does not have speakers.

Well, you wouldn't be here if you did not have an imagination, so use that!

Well im based in London UK so I'm afraid Craigslist and any other American source is out of the question.

I think housing the thing outside in a sound proof box will suffice. Either that or turn the music up!

The HF site claims it's "Decibel Level 107-112 at 3ft" that's pretty loud.

Well, there ya go... that's why I'm not a fan of this thing cranking away directly in my shop. I didn't know the spec'd level, but I knew it was pretty freakin' loud.

Here's another video back in the garage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBAKFx9QDcg) with a sound meter this time.

I am about to plunk down some money to add a ventilation system to my new/old laser.

There are two from harbor freight. The green and the red. I have read a few listings here about the better one. With equal votes between both.

The Green

the Red

At $100 it is still > 60% cheaper than the Penn State one. Although I want the quiet one.

how loud is the green harbor freight one? I already bought a router speed adjusting pedal.

I am modding Dan's DIY charcoal filtration to make mine out of galvanized garbage cans, wire mesh, and a dust collector lid

The red is loud as a beast and I would no longer recommend it if it will be housed in the same area as your ears. The green is supposedly quieter, but you cannot use the router controller with it due to the different design (induction versus brush). I haven't taken a close look at the HF greenie, but as I understand it the PSI unit is beefier and quieter (65 dB is pretty darn quiet for a piece of equipment that moves that much air).

If you must go with the HF unit (either one), they go one sale every couple of months, and don't forget to use the 20% off one item coupon.

I have a Busy Bee one, similar to the HF green, and it seems quiet (65db spec'ed) my Zing seems louder, I should look around for my meter and measure it. I would also like to try one of those muffler/silencers, I wounder if I can make one using a 10" pipe with a 4" perforated pipe in the center surrounded by acoustic lining or rock wool, I just need to find some time.
