For your critique here is a Pen made not from a kit. Although I did used some components from a kit. I modified and used the the click mechanism and finial/clip assembly from a SlimLine Pro. Other components were purchased separately and modified as necessary.
Specs:
Lower Barrel:
30-06 Cartridge with 155.5 Grain match grade FMJ bullet.
Sanded to 1800 then polished to a high gloss with Brasso
2-3 Coats of CA applied to prevent tarnish
Parker Style Gel Writer Ink Cartridge.
Upper Barrel:
Buckeye Natural Burl with Gun Metal Clip and Finial
10 Coats of CA and Polished with plastic/acrylic polish then waxed
It's not quite as obvious in the photos but the natural buckeye almost looks like a type of camouflage.

This shows some of the inner components that were modified.

I think it's a great looking pen, around these parts we use bullets to convey our feelings from the barrell of a gun. ;)

JD, you are really venturing out on these hybrid cartridge pens! Looks like you are developing quite a unique process for combining and adapting the parts. Some great end results, too! Very eyecatching!

Had to find a use for that expensive metal lathe/mill sitting opposite my wood lathe. With these pens I can use both.:D

Outstanding. So you used the actual bullet from a 30-06, and machined it for the tip as well...dang...good use of material. I like the looks of the cartridge kits, but the tip usually doesn't look as good as yours does.
Very nice finish and overall super job. I like buckeye burl too...one of my favorites.

Thanks David. My skills may be growing too fast. My initial design for this pen was a one "shot" deal. It didn't allow for replacing the refil and I didn't even realize it until I started turning material. I had to go back to the drawing board several times.
