As you may have read in my earlier post, a couple weeks ago I picked up an explosion-proof fan for my eventual spray booth off craigslist for only $35. Well, after a bit of work, it's ready for installation. My rough tests show it's moving around 4500 cfm, so it'll empty my planned spray booth every 20 seconds! Not bad for a total investment of $50 and a few hours of time. Some before & after shots ...

Nice, Cliff. How'd you get it so clean? Sandblasting?

No, mainly a wire brush on the frame and some sandpaper on the motor. Most of the junk was paint overspray, most of which came off in big chunks with a bit of scraping. I love Rustoleum Hammertone paint, the textured finish hides a multitude of sins :D

The fan must have been used without being behind filters. That will build up paint on the blades and cause them to get running out of balance and vibrate. Must be avoided.
