My art entry is 'Moonshine Mishap'. It is from a dried cherry burl that I harvested back in the spring. It had a lot of bark inclusions which made me turn more air than wood. It measures 7"across by 8" tall and is finished with Danish Oil and Lacquer.

My utility entry is a simple form bowl. It is from a piece of Ambrosia Maple and measures 7 3/4" across by 4" tall finished with Danish Oil. Out of all the bowls I have turned, I had not kept one for myself, so I chose this one and put it to work. (FYI, it holds exactly 1 bag of popcorn)

Great name and turning Tony on your art piece. The color and holes remind me of something you would have found half buried out in the woods!:) Lots of character and very nice detailing around the rim! Nothing more utilitarian than a popcorn bow!

Tony You have a couple of pretty nice pieces there. You have done a great job.

Nicely done. I love the black areas around the natural voids in the art piece... It looks like it's been in a fire.

The utilitarian bowl looks great, and it sounds as though you've sized it perfectly.

Great looking entry and I bet it is a great finger whacker too.

Moonship Mishap turned by faith! Nicely done to bring to a completed piece. Beautifully gnarly!

Nice pair.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone. I would like to give a big Thank-You to Steve Schlumpf for giving me a few tips on posting text and pictures together. He helped to make it look like I knew what I was doing.:D

Tony, two great looking pieces!! The cherry is just awesome - really a nice piece with good detail and lots of character.

The maple bowl is a very nice form, with nice grain centering.

Well done!!

That's a very interesting cherry burl and it won't hold any moonshine, so it's definitely art:). I'd say that must have sounded like an airplane on the lathe:eek:. The shape of the popcorn bowl is perfect for resting in your lap.
Very well done on both pieces and thank you for joining in and posting:)

Tony - excellent work on the Moonshine jug!

Love the wood, the form and all the voids! Just me - but for a piece to really be considered artwork - it has to generate conversation. This piece does just that and would look great on display in a high end gallery or private collection!

Popcorn bowl - what a great idea! Nice form and as functional as it gets!

Nice work on everything Tony! Thanks for taking part in the challenge!

Tony, You are like me with the wild and missing parts wood to be turning! I love the shape of the cherry piece and how it looks like it was lost in a desert for a 100 years. The popcorn is making me hungry so I better get some lunch and get back to the shop, one of my art gallery owners is coming tomorrow for some utility bowls so I have to get busy! They are a hot item this year for wedding gifts in my area.

Thanks for your accompishments in the challenge,

Jeff

I too love the challenge of the severely voided pieces like 'moonshine mishap'. That's a great form and great name.

I like the maple popcorn bowl alot also. Great job on both!

Nice work Tony, and a very appropriate name for the exploded jug ;-))))
