I picked up a Stanley 608 today for the parts; the casting is bent, welded and generally trashed. The frog, knob, tote, and other fittings looked good. As I starting taking it apart in the shop, I found a new problem I didn't discover when I decided to buy it. See the "screws" in the picture.

They appear to be in there relatively tight. Any recommendations for taking them out? I thought, maybe cut a slot with a Dremel and then use a screwdriver, but that is a touchy operation.

Thanks,

Mark

That's flat top 608, right? To get these off and frog, you loosen and take screws off from the back of the frog. You should see 3 screws: Middle one is for frog adjustment (forward and backward) and two flanking either side of it hold these. You don't have to touch the middle one.

+1 on that -- they're not really screws in your photo!

I had a similar response the first time I took apart a bedrock.
