I am looking to purchase a touch up spray gun to spray waterborne lacquer on small bandsaw and scroll saw boxes. I have both an air compressor and HVLP system.

My neighbor is a trim work contractor who recommended I get one - he has a Devilibiss, so I emailed them for a recommendation (since they have a number of guns) and other than asking for all of my contact information, no response.

Any recommendations or suggestions?

I use the SP-08 and it works great. And for $35.00 it is pretty much a throw-away after a few years.

Harbor Freight gravity feed HVLP. It works great, is well made, easy to clean and if on sale plus the 20% off coupon is an unbelieveable bargain.

I have one of these and I really like it.
It'd be perfect for boxes and such.

I've got a little "Vaper" brand one from Northern Tool that works fine. I can use my little portable Makita compressor to run it--worked great for doing touchups in a kitchen.

I have used a Critter Gun for a number of small projects. It's kind of an airbrush on steroids and does water based poly quite well.

Really not suitable for large projects, the spray pattern is just too small and it doesn't handle latex paints well at all.

But, for $40 it's quite serviceable and easy to clean.

Have fun with your project.

I use an air brush also, the control and ability to get in and get finsih in the tight spots, without worrying about runs. As with most things spend a bit more and get a good quality airbrush. I bought a Iwata and it has great control and spary pattern.

Ditto on the Harbor Freight HVLP gun, have had two of them for three years and they work great for me.

Asturo makes a line of LVLP guns made to spray water bornes called the WB-series. They will also work fine for solvent based, but they have a lot of stainless interior parts to avoid any rust issues. I am using the full sized gun to spray water born lacquer and the results are great. Its a gently priced unit as professional guns go. I know they have a detail and touch up gun in the same line, I imagine it performs similarly. They have tip kits tailored to the higher viscosity of water borns available too. These LVLP guns have really low air consumption and will spray on a small compressor if required. I got one to take portable if necessary. They say you may have to go a bit slower than with a straight HVLP set up which might be a concern in a high production environment.

I got mine from Spray gun world online.
