I have never done any carving other than pointing a stick with a pocket knife, but I bought a bunch of carving chisels and gouges at a yard sale recently. Some have Japanese writing on the wooden handles with about a one inch blade, but the best looking ones to me are small gouges and skews with bulbous handles with the Muller stamp on the shaft. Are these decent tools? The seller said his mother used them for block carving. Thanks for the help

Edward C Muller Co. is a manufacturer of printmaking tools, your tools were made to carve wood or linoleum blocks for printing, however they can be very useful for carving details and low reliefs. I have and use a number of these tools. They are made to be controllable with one hand.
