The small vase is 3 1/2 x 7; is made out of a small Ash root ball. Finish is rattle can lacquer. The various colors and grain make it pretty difficult to photograph and do it justice.

The utility entry is a mallet of laminated hickory, ash, red oak, and brazilian walnut. It measures 1 7/8 x 10. Finish is buffed Tripoli, white Diamond, and Ren Wax.

That is one gnarly, ugly, piece of wood. :D I like it though...

Really like the vase. It's wood, just being wood with lots of natural character.

Is the white wood sapwood, spalting or ??

Good job on both pieces. I love a piece of wood with lots of inclusions and contrast... The vase has got plenty of both.

That's the most intricate bonker I've ever seen.

Dan, that vase is certainly eye catching!! Beautiful wood. And your mallet is a very pleasing combination of woods. Both are well done!

Wow - really like all the contrasting colors in your vase! You really had to have a vision of what you wanted before turning to create that one! Pretty cool - lot's of character!

Pretty fancy bonker as well! Could be considered an art piece in it's own right!

Nice work on both! Thanks for participating!

Lots of great color in that vase. I have yet to try a root ball. May have to give it a shot! Nice mallet as well!
