Hi boys and girls,

While searching for something else, happened to run into this study on table saw noise. I dont endorse it as the best study of table saw noise ever done, but thought some of you might be interested in it. (sorry for the image uploads, the pdf file was over the upload limit and Im not savvy enough to know a better way....)

Hearing protection is so easy to use, and of such proven benefit. I worked with an excellent carpenter one time who said he never used any kind of hearing protection; I told him that was ok, before long he wouldn't need to.

My new saw included a noise level certificate of conformity and the noise levels when idle and sawing according the standards.

It's nice to see that noise is being addressed.

Interestingly it also came with a dust emission certificate of conformity.

Rod,

Is the saw noticeably quieter than you would have expected?

Hi Frank, many people mentioned the high amounts of blade noise on the machine, however that was when the manufacturer was running 50Hz motors at 60Hz without changing drive ratios.

My machine has the correct drive ratios and I think it's quieter than the General 650 it replaced, if the scoring blade isn't being used.

Once you use scoring it's louder than the General.

Regards, Rod.

P.S. One thing that's quieter is the start up, the Hammer B3 starts slower and much smoother, and cabinet dust collection is superb.

Cabinet dust collection on the General was a joke.
