As I said in my other post my sister is coming for a month long visit up here in Kansas. We have 7 of us in the family so she will be making the rounds. I turned 3 pens. Two are acrylic and the 3rd is walnut from my dads farm. One for her, my neice and the walnut is for my BIL who has just retired from the NC highway patrol. The small apple shaped lidded boxes are for my sis and my neice. They are turned out of mahogany. Approx 3" tall and 1 1/2" across. Lacquer finish.

You guys are doing some neat work with these small turnings!! I really need to try one.

Nice pens, as always, Bernie, and the little mahogany boxes are beautiful.

Bernie,

Really nice boxes and pens! If they were getting a grade all would be A+ :)

I especially like the form and the fine detail on the boxes .... the lids fit so nicely that one hardly notices the seam between the body and the lids!

Pens I see all the time kind of my B&B but those boxes, I am definitely going to have to copy them or something like them. They are neat.

Great Job Bernie, when I first looked I thought the boxes were scoops. I was going to ask for an explaination on the process. I recon there's gonna be some happy recipients.

Thanks everyone. The boxes are from a DVD by Ray Key. Fairly easy to make but the key is to keep the body and lid seamless. I really like making these.

Karl the pen blanks do look good enough to eat. My neice likes yellow and sis like purple so lemon and grape works. Nice things about little sister is she likes anything big brother makes no matter how bad it is or looks.:D

Bernie, That is some nice work.On your pens did you have to paint the tube on the Acrylic ones?If so what kind of paint do you use?

Thanks again all. Donny I use painted tubes I get from woodcraft. If they don't have them for a particular pen tube I use sandpaper then paint with white krylon paint.
