Help! easier way to assemble splined legs

Folks, I am making an arts and crafts dresser and am having trouble getting the splined legs together. When I put them together it is difficult and wont stay perfectly together and square. Any thoughts on how to make this process easier. I was thinking of gluing them up in halves which i thought would be easier to keep square and not as cumbersome for final assembly.
