Is this too much lathe?

Haven't turned a pen is about 4 months, so thought I'd see if the new lathe could handle it. The blank was Spalted Maple, until I got it round, then it was just Maple.

Nope. As has often been said... "You can turn small stuff on a big lathe, but you can't turn big stuff on a small lathe".
Nice pen. Is that OO or Mulberry that props it up? Just guessing. :)

Don't worry about the yellow. It will age, if exposed to UV light, to a rich chocolate brown, with slight yellow tints.

Nope lathe is fine. Pen looks mighty fine. Osage Orange will be beautiful after a little while. I love turning it and watching it change.

What's the definition of too much?:D The only thing you need to worry about is too little;) Nice looking pen (& lathe of course)

If its too much, you can always ship it to me, I'll find somewhere to put it. Actually, I found mine was a little too tall, I had to build a platform to stand on :eek: LOL.

Not too much lathe, just too small a project. The pen looks nice, but you have room to stretch out there and tie on to a large chunk of wood. Good luck.

Lathe size looks pretty good too me also.
Never know when you are going to have to turn a 36" pen...
