Curly Maple, 8 5/8" high x 4 1/4" wide x 1/8" thick, sanded to 800 grit and has several coats of wipe-on gloss poly. Will wait for a week or so and then buff it out and apply some Renaissance wax.

Steve,

First of all, great turning [as you always do!] I noticed that on one side the grain almost looks like tiger maple, and the other side has a different swirl configuration to the grain.

Just an interesting piece, and very nicely done!

Steve, you've got such a good eye for form, and as Roger pointed out, the variances in the grain are really unique. From heavy curl to what appears to be part of a crotch section makes for a very interesting vase. The finish is great now, I'm sure when you buff & wax, it'll be awesome. Fine piece Steve, thanks for sharing.

Very cool Steve, I noticed one thing though ... No Cracks in this one. Kidding aside, awsome stuff.

What a refreshingly different shape! I don't think I've seen that before. I like it.
And the wood is wonderful too. Talent - what a cheap trick!

Steve, another one nicely done!! That really is some very pretty maple, and the form does such a great job of showcasing the figure.

I still think one of those rough turns deserves some dye!!;)

Steve, that is so pretty. I like the nice dainty foot; it gives the whole shape a nice light appearance. And that wood is really beautiful with so much variation going on there. Was it hard hollowing out to that depth with such a narrow width? Alan

Steve,

I really like this one as well as the first one. Very pleasing shape.

Thanks for the kind words everyone - I do appreciate it!

Alan - the word I would use is 'challenging'. You just have to be aware of where the tool is and get used to spending a lot of time removing shavings!

Great looking form. I like this one even more than the last one you showed. For some reason, this form is more appealing to me. The wood and finish are fantastic, and I love the side-lying photos, too.

There was this turning I did a long time ago. It was the little knobby thing that you put on the end of a ceiling light pull string. I was very proud of that knobby thing because I really loved the shape....and I swore that someday I would turn a vase the exact same shape. But I never did.:o

But you did Steve!!!

Did I say I love it?:)

Nice job Steve and very interesting shape. The grain in the wood is really striking.
The only wood I get up north here is birch, poplar and black ash which unless spalted are pretty dull by comparison.

Another beauty! I'm not quite as crazy about this form as the other maple vase but it's still very nice. And it has you signature incredible finish. Both of these maple vases look really interesting sitting on their sides too.

Antoher SS creation of wonderful proportion and finish. Really nice Steve. Shall we expect the next one to be 1/16th of an inch thick?

One of the benefits of living on the Upper Peninsula is all that beautiful hard maple. Gorgeous wood and the form is pristine.

I like this form a lot. It looks great laying on it's side as well as standing on the bottom. One could turn this form and let the curve run all the way to the bottom so that it layed on it's side or had to be put in a stand to stand up. The wood is great also.
