I`m looking for a feeder for my 3 hp. shaper. I`ve been trying to find a used one but there aren`t many around. I found a comatic 1 hp. track feeder for $750.00 not sure if that is negotiable or not. It looks to be identical to the grizzly G1135 which could be handy for replacment belts/tracks. Are there any advantages to the track versus rollers. I`m guessing you can run short pieces with it. Anybody familiar with these?

CoMatic private labels for Grizzly and others and are very good machines with availible parts.
The track feeder is good for short pieces, but the feeder itself is large and may be 3 phase. This might not be a good match for a 3 hp shaper.
Try Advance Machinery Systems, they have a single phase three wheel for under $800

Track feeders are nice for short parts. We routinely run 6"-7" rail and stile parts on a 3-wheel feeder that I converted to belt feed with Western Roller hubs and belts. The belts stretch over time and need to be replaced for best performance.

PM me if you would consider a G4179 1/2 HP Grizzly feeder. I have one as a spare.

Greg,
Checkout WMD who imports/distributes the Maggi-Steff feeders.

I have a 4 wheel, 1Hp feeder and couldn't imagine using the shaper without it.

Good luck,
John

I am trying to understand your conversion to a track system.

Is this the conversion you are talking about?

Please - if anyone knows how to point to a website without making the link clickable, let me know. In this day and age it is hard to have technical discussions without web links.

I hope I don't run afoul of the link policies here. I simply don't know anyway to ask this question without pointing to the subject site. I am not trying to cause trouble. But as a new person here, I am not sure what the right way to link is.

Rafe,
Call Western Roller directly and ask to talk to Ron Bellot. He is fantastic to work with and will explain what Western Roller can do for you which believe it or not is more than just re-tire your feeder.

His contact info is:

John, thanks for that link. From what I'm seeing those WMD feeders are cheaper than the Grizzly's, and have more speeds. Thanks!

No - I don't see it on their web site. The wheels are replaced with machined aluminum "wheels" that look like triple belt pulleys. Polyurethane belts run in the grooves and are what contacts the parts.

Dirk,
It is more than just the number of speeds that is important. Look at the lowest speed for cleanest cuts. I purchased the Steff/Maggi 2048 feeder 6 year ago for the best speed range. I am very satisfied with the feeder and today's price on that same feeder is within $75 of what I paid. That is a very good price.

I would also check Felder as they frequently have them on sale. Their feeders are rebadged Steff/Maggi feeders.

Thank you. I will call them as another suggested.

This is sort of hard.
