Here is a cherry bowl that I made this week. I had a chance to try out the sorby texturing tool at the same time, I'm looking forward to using it more often.

This bowl is 12" x 2" and is finished in walnut oil.

C&C always welcome

Jonathan

Great job Jonathan!

I have borrowed the Sorby tool but have yet to try them. Did you turn this wood green or was is dried first?

Beautiful bowl! The texturing adds a lot. I would be inerested in seeing a profile view as well. Great job!

I've no profile picture and I've already taken apart the photo studio, sorry

It was dried first in my homemade kiln. Thanks for your comments

Another beauty, Jonathan! I really like the simple curve and the texturing treatment. Anything more "busy" would ruin the graceful nature of the bowl. Very nice.

Very well done!! I like the wide rim on this bowl - makes for a nice palette for the texturing. Adding the bordering incised cuts to contain the texturing is also a very nice detail.

Very nice. I like the texturing, and you've done a wonderful job centering the grain on the piece.

I have the texturing tool, but have not succeeded in making anything look that good. Any tips?

Beautiful wood. I love the color of natural cherry, I just wish it wouldn't darken so much over time. I have a similar piece but not quite as large diameter. It looks like it might make a nice natural edge but still debating with myself on how to turn it.

No question about it that is a pretty one.

Jonathan,
Lovely job on the bowl/deep platter.
The rim proportion really frames the bowl and sets it off and the texturing is very attractive. Will have to explore texturing soon.

Wayne

Great looking bowl Jonathan! I love working with Cherry and know that your bowl will become even better looking with a little age to it! Nice work on the texturing! Looks like you created a fairly even pattern! Also like your use of detail lines to highlight the textured area!

Very nice work! Looking forward to seeing what you turn next!

Very nice simple bowl ..the texturing in my mind is subtle and not too much, nor too little. Seems just right to me.
