The figure in this blank is unreal. It's one of the coolest woods I've ever worked with. CA finish buffed out with micromesh and plastic polish.
The pen kit is the Zen from CSUSA in chrome plating.

Thanks for looking!

This is an outstanding piece of wood. I think that the simple shape and the straightforward hardware complement it. The finish looks outstanding and the photos are great. Nice work.

Joe,
Again, you didn't disappoint. Stunning pen and gorgeous wood and finish.

I must comment also that your photo skills are excellent. I like many others have that as a big weakness. You don't appear to have any problems with the photography side in my book.

Great job again!!

Wow - to say that is a beautiful pen is a gross understatement! Amazing wood! Reminds me of a root beer colored agate!

Exceptionally nice work! Thanks for sharing!

Joe, sure would love to have a 6" cube of that stuff!!!!

John, for about $300 you could! I drool over desert ironwood and dream of making a duck call for myself out of it, but haven't found the guts to pull the trigger and purchase a piece. Joe you make one heck of a nice pen sir.

Joe, sure would love to have a 6" cube of that stuff!!!!

Be careful what you ask for-you might get it:eek:.

This stuff is miserable to turn. I turned a lidded container out of it-3" dia., 7" high, and had to turn through a bullet lodged in the center of it. The bullet was only slightly harder to turn than the wood. You don't get shavings off of it, you get chips. Turning it is sort of like being sandblasted. The dust is dark, gritty, and irritating. And it smells-bad. Particularly if it gets burned, which is easy to do.

The results are worth it though. Especially if you have a masochistic streak.

I'll put up a pic later.
