A batch of calls for hunting friends. The first is from Silver Maple burl with a slate surface over a crystal soundboard. The two-piece striker is Purpleheart and burl.

This one is cherry with a bronze glass surface over a slate soundboard. It got pimped out with a turkey foot sandblasted on the underside of the glass and my buddy's initials blasted into the slate. The top side of the glass is blasted around the edge to hide the glue line. The striker is Purpleheart. The strikers are hollowed at the top to hold a piece of the abrasive pad used to condition the surface.

A couple more. This one is spalted Poplar with slate over glass. The striker is Purpleheart.

More Silver maple burl. The sound holes conveniently arrayed themselves around a knot. Blasted glass over glass with a Purpleheart striker.

Nicely done on both pieces. I like the combination striker, and the customized glass is really nice.

Ted,
They all look great. Looks like some very nice future pots in the burl chuncks pictured in the photo's as well.

Great calls! Where did you get the slate and crystal? I'd love to make a few for me and my dad and brother.

Ted, some very nice work!! I am pleasantly shocked at the silver maple burl - never dreamed it would be as rich and showy as those pieces are. These are some really nice calls - and great pics, too!!

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments.

Patrick, I bought the supplies years ago and can't remember where they came from. When I run out, the go to guy seems to be Chad at stumpyglassman@yahoo.com. He doesn't have a web site but has a great reputation among call makers and carries slate, glass, crystal and ceramic in various sizes.

Yup, Chad's the man for glass, slate and crystal. He doesn't take credit cards or paypal, so you have to use a check or money order. If you want to pay another way, the two other options are Brookside Game Calls and Grassy Creek Game Calls.
