Lowes has an 8" Variable Speed grinder for 129.
Are the wheels that come with it good for sharpening or do I need to buy them special?

Yes they are. I bought one last weekend to use with a Wolverine jig. Comes with one grey 60 grit wheel and one white 80 grit wheel. It also has a 30.00 mail in rebate till the end of the month.

Robert,
You might want to look around some. I think Amazon may have it cheaper....

Woodgraft has an 8" tool grinder on sale for $74.99 with 120 grit and 60 grit white aluminum oxide grinding wheels.
My Mother in Law, whom I love dearly and who loves me, lives near a Woodcraft store.
Merry Christmas to me!
