I have the Mag Light flashlight that takes 3 D batteries and was wondering if there is a better bulb to replace the original one with? If so, where might I find one? thanks, Sean

yep, they sell a L.E.D. conversion for the maglights, I got mine at lowes, I believe I paid around $12, and yes it is much brighter.

A lot of people have reported little success with the LED conversion for the D cell Maglite. Even the D cell flashlights sold by Magliite as LED from the start are little more than an LED conversion kit in the same flashlight they have sold for decades.

The issue is that LED requires different optics to get maximum light from an LED versus a standard bulb. The AA size Maglite that is LED does have redesigned optics, but not the D cell models.

If you want the best possible upgrade for your 2-6 cell Mag light, look for a Malkoff Drop in. They sell out fast, but you can sign up to be notified when they are back in stock. They are not cheap - far from it, but they will turn your stock Maglight into a real powerhouse.

For everything (and more) you ever wanted to know about flashlights, check out Candlepower Forums (http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/). These guys are to flashlights what SMC is to woodworking.

Trade it in for a Surefire. Insanely bright, very small. They have a couple of models that have both a bulb & LED's.

I have several small LED Maglights and they are awesome. They are brighter than the original bulbs, take AA batteries and the batteries last a very long time.
