Hello all.

I would like to give turning a try. I have a chance to buy a used Delta lathe, I believe the model # is 46-715 but not 100% sure, he did say it was 3/4 hp ,and variable speed, 500-2000 rpm. I'm not sure if Delta made other models with these specs or not.

It is 5-6 years old and according to the owner its like new. He is asking $400.CAD or $335. USD with some craftsman turning tools.

I was wondering if this would be a good starter lathe for me as I would like to give bowl turning and pen turning a try.

Thanks
John

That age would make it before the 715. Probably the 700... Price sounds high, frankly. For that you can get a NEW Jet VS mini with a bed extension.

If it is a 46-715 that is a very good price.
I have one and use it all the time.
If you post a pic we could tell you if it is that model.

I would like to thank those who responded to my post. I have decided that I will start off with a mini lathe.

I have also ordered Bill Grumbine's DVD on turning and I am looking forward to viewing it.

Thanks again.
