I am in the hunt for a 20-inch planer and am wondering anyone knows if these Grizzly planers (I believe them to both be the older G1033 models) can be upgraded to a helix-type cutter?

I Googled Byrd cuter head and found one for my 50 year Foley Belsaw. Try that. Of course, at $1400, I didn't need it so badly.

I have one on my Powermatic clone of that planer. I think Grizzly even sells the Byrd and their version of an insert head for it.

I have a G1033 that is a few years older than the second one (not sure about the first) and, yes, I believe you can get a Byrd to fit it. Go to Grizzly's site and do a cross reference on their cutterhead chart to see which one to get. Looks like you have 3 choices. Here's the page:

I just can't justify the $800-$900 for the head right now.

Thanks for the information and links, gents!
That brings these used planers into serious contention!

Now, if I can just find someone near Bryson City, NC... Thanks again!

Steve,
I have a 20" wide three phase Bridgewood planer I bought used but in great shape. I bought the helix head to install and never got around to it. If you might be interested, send me a PM.
