Wanted to say hello to everyone. I've been turning pens for about a year and a half and decided I wanted to try an bowl. I found a nice piece of Cedar in my firewood pile and decided to give it a shot. I turned it on a Turncrafter Pro so it was a little exciting until I removed a lot of the mass. I've since, this weekend, bought a full size lathe and can't wait to turn some plates and bowls. Here is my first attempt, comments and constructive criticism are appreciated.

Welcome to the creek.
It looks like you are in the vortex already.
Nice bowl, especially for a first.

Welcome to the Creek, Nate! You've done well!! When you get your new lathe, you do need to gloat a little. :D
For your first bowl, this is a definite keeper! You'll want to look back on it, in a couple of years, and compare it to your newest! Believe it...
Look forward to seeing more of your work. :)

Welcome Nate. Great shape and finish on that bowl.

I would get all of that cedar out of your firewood pile. It's too pretty to burn and not good for the chimney.

Thank you all for the welcome and kind words. I have a pic of the the lathe and it's proud owner here (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?p=657293&page=7). I was able to get the Jet 1642 EVS-1 on sale. Haven't done much with it save clean off the cosmoline and assemble. No chuck so will be patient and get one Monday.

Nice first bowl Nate. Definitely better than mine and a firewood save at that!
Looking forward to see some of the output of the Jet, I have the same lathe.
