This one is a complete opposite of the last box elder piece I posted as far as size. This one measures 12" diameter x 7" tall. Finished with antique oil and buffed. As a side note, there was a discussion recently about tennon size. This was turned and hollowed with a 2" diameter tennon without a steady rest. Anyway comments/critiques welcome. Thanks for looking.

You already know that this is my favorite form in the world! Absolutely beautiful! Love the color variations in the wood and must say that you are getting quite dramatic with your photos!

Great work as always! Thanks for sharing!

Keith, beautiful piece and the box elder really has some nice eyes in it with a lot of swirling grain. Makes for a very nice look for this form.

Great work as always, and thanks for the continued inspiration I get from your pieces!

Really makes me want to do another hollowed piece!!

Very nicely done!
I've found a 2 inch tenon in a Stronghold chuck holds better than a 2 1/2" as the jaws have better contact. One of my teachers tried to tell me this years ago but I would not listen.
Do you bleach your box elder?

Great HF. I especially like the grain on this one.

Very nice. I always seem to like pieces where the size is not evident from the photo... I would have guessed this piece was smaller than you listed. That deception seems to be a good indication for pleasing form at least to my eyes.

Another beauty Mr Burns sir.:)

I gotta ask, as I know how meticulous you are and that your wall thickness is probably even throughout....At this diameter, it would be difficult to make the reach up under the shoulder...So what shape of boring bar do you use, type of bit, and did you transistion to different shapes of bars as you traveled through the hollowing?

Thanks guyes.

Steve, you work was my inspiration. Thanks !

John Hart, I used two different goosneck bars with three cutting tips. Roughed with a Jordan goosneck bar. Finished with a Sorby bar with a teardrop cutter and a round carbide cutter for the final finnishing.

I agree. Nice form, and when you can't tell the scale, that's a good indication that the proportions are right on.
