I am looking for a dado blade for my table saw. I want one that will give me a flat bottom and nice clean cuts in hardwoods, softwoods and plywood. I want everything, right!

Any thoughts on brands and the pitfalls of buying a used upper end dado blade set?

If I look at a used dado set, what percent of new price would be reasonable?

Thanks,

Kim

I bought a new 8" Oshlun Dado set and love it. Cuts are smooth and flat and setup is simple. I got it via Amazon and it was $85.00.

If you use the key code "July1" at Peachtree, you can get 25% off of a Freud SD508. That quality of a dado stack for $150 is about the best deal I can think of.

Freud SD508 is a very good dado set.
I don’t see many used high-end dado sets up for sale in my area. You know that you’re starting with flat, sharp, blades when you buy new.

I would assume a used blade or dado set is not sharp and then you are faced with that cost. Buy new.

Oshlun SDS-0842 8-Inch 42-tooth Stack Dado Set

Works great, for the price I would definitely buy new.

I have a SD310 10" Freud safety dado, and I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT if you want smooth bottom cuts.

The outer blades have an ATB type tooth grind, and it does not leave a smooth finish if you move the piece across the dado (such as when making a tenon)
