Hello the Creek...
Can't say why have turned this: fun ? challenge ? don't well know....
but, it's done.
Out of a yew branch, H 118, Widht 70 mm
with help of my bandsaw, Merlin (KAtools), Auriou rasp & others...
turning the outside with gouge, inside first with BCT then Munro (security of the shaving limiter) and finally sanding
When you get 25/20% wood and the rest air..with a mouth like in a HF (but you don't see precisely the rim).it's a stress. But a good stress.
I have to confess after inside was turned, there were many defects (lines, woodfibers crushed) but sanding (by hand on the non running lathe) was not so boring. Inside with Kirjes 150 then by hand ad 400, outside 120
ad 400 only by hand.
Steelwhool, and in fine burnished with a leather patch.
It's a singular piece, Hope you love it.
Friendly, Lionel.

Very impressive, Lionel. It took nerves of steel and a touch like silk to be able to successfully turn that piece. Well done.

It looks like A 70s-era contemporary chair. If you could turn a whole tree trunk you could make one big enough for actual furniture.:)

I do love it! Very impressive work and creative design put together for a fine piece.
I know this was difficult to turn but at least you did not have to stop and clear out the shavings.

Very impressive piece of work Lionel. You deserve a medal for having courage enough to follow through with this. I imagine guts and patience are the key to your success on this piece:eek::)

i am not up to date on my mm, cm or metric units of measure....but if it was the right size i was kind of thinking it would make a very nice pen display, depending on the color of the wood on the pen...

oh... yes very unusual but very very original and neat looking piece.

That is a beauty. I can't say as I would have the guts to give it a go.

Well Done Lionel.

I can attest to the difficulty of this type of turning. I have one attempt completed....and it required my intense attention 100% of the time.

Very nice!:)

Hello all,
thanks for comments.
I've still 10 fingers and I'm thinking about another shape with narrower space to hollow the inside.
to help and secure I have in project a tool rest with two pins facing the safe space.;)
Not a good idea ?
