I think I am starting to get the hang of the new photo booth. Believe it or not the first day I forgot to turn off the overhead flourescent light, duh! I guess you never get too old to get excited about a new toy.

This is my first saturn bowl. I have a bunch of this cedar so I guess there will be more in the works. The piece is 1 3/4 inches deep and 7 1/2 across the wrings. The fact that it looks like a heart was just luck.

Steve - that is pretty cool! Nice form - love all the colors! I would rename it - Valentines Day Bowl!

Nice piece, Steve. I've been planning on doing a winged bowl of that basic design. I like the colors and the 'saturn' design definitely shows off the sap wood contrast.

Never admit to 'luck' - you picked that piece of wood for its profile!;)

Steve, how did you keep the pith from cracking? Did you soak it with CA or something?

Steve, I really like the way the cedar looks in that form with the natural edge! I need to get busy and finish some things for the art challenge. Just need to put the welder and grinders down for a while!

Thanks for sharing,

Jeff

Very cool piece Steve. Gives me another idea for the abundance of cedar I have.

That is a great way to show off the contrasting colors and outside shape of the tree!

I pulled the jpg and put it up as my desktop - the finish is very impressive on this. I turned my 1st little winged piece this weekend and this piece really shows me what can be done. Thanks for sharing.. oh and one of my co - workers thought it looked like a heart too.
