This bowl and two more came from the same small hard maple that fell on my property last Thanksgiving weekend. This maple has large heart wood as most does in this area. I need to work on my bottom technique.

That's a great first bowl. Bottom turning and finishing takes a bit of practice. I like the little bead detail at the rim. You should be very proud. Make sure you date, sign, and keep this one... You'll get a kick out of looking back at it in a year or so.

Good looking bowl Rich! Be sure to sign it!

What are the dimensions? What about finish? What is it you want to change on turning the bottom of the bowl?

I havent finished them yet.

They are all about 7" diameter. The first two are about 3" deep and the last one is about 1" deep.

The picture doesnt show it well, but I have a little tearout and didnt get it cleaned up well. The bottom on the second one you can see a glow of light through, so it is too thin, but still intact.

Rich, I think you did fantastic with this one!! Haven't looked at #2 and #3 yet, but this is a great start!

Thanks for the compliments. This one is quite thin. I am going to leave them thicker for a while until I get a better feel for turning.
