I am working on trying to wind up with some 2 x 2 stock for chair legs from Cypress.

I can buy 2 x stock that is really 1-3/4 so I need to buy and glue up then cut down to get my true 2 x 2.

2 x 4's won't work so I thought to go to 2 x 6, glue up then get 2 pcs
2 x 2 from each glue up. The glue up would be 5-1/2" x 3-1/2".

Looking for suggestions on a way to do this that has less waste?

Thanks.

can't find an alternate source or have them cut to order?

cypress isn't terribly expensive for me no matter what size i want. it's a pretty fast growing tree and large sizes are readily available, at least around here in the southeast.

All I can find is 4/4, 5/4 & 8/4 rough sawn in Indianapolis area.

Thanks

How about getting that 5/4, which will clean up nicely to one inch. Glue them together and have a true 2 x ??

I would go with what Will said. You should be able to plane a good glueup face on the the 5/4 stock and then be able to plane the final product two inches. Try to hand pick stock if you can to get material that matches well.
