You have to view the title and description of this book (http://www.cambiumbooks.com/books/carving/1565232216/). Now I think it is an art form but come on is this for real? All is you need is to have your neighbor see you cutting one of the figures in your garage.

Just when you thought you have seen it all. This is woodworking at its best??

thats by Ian Norbury, He's a famous carver and he sells his pieces for about $5000 a pop. Check out his sight at iannorbury.com and you'll see some really amazing things. I think it might even have the prices for some of his pieces right on there.

Edit: By the way, thats not done using only a bandsaw, only a rough outline is.

Lyle Jamison does some extraordinary work in this area combining carving and turning; his are hollow and the growth rings of the wood are very carefully taken into consideration to match the form. Totally amazing work. http://www.lylejamieson.com/gallery/index.asp
