The maple blank for this was gifted to me by Robin Costelle awhile back, THANKS Robin. Thought it was time to turn it. It measures 7-1/4" diameter x 14-1/2" to the top of the blackwood finial. The inset for the lid is ebony. The finial and lid are about 4-1/4" tall. Finished with brush on lacquer and buffed. All comments/critiques are welcome.

Wow, very elegant and beautiful figure in the wood.
I'm not going to even try and say anything but nice things about that piece, it flows well, I like the transition in the finial, the finial is very elegant too.

Superb, yet another turner out there to keep the bar raised high. Fortunately, some of us can crawl underneath and still make it to the other side.:p Hey...I think I found my signature!

That's really nice. I like the simplicity of the form and finial. I especially like the way you tuck under the bottom of this form... It seems to soften the whole look for me which I like.

Beautiful work! I have studied this 3 or 4 times today and I like it more each time. Is the lid the same wood but with just a different grain orientation. Almost looks like a matching piece of burl.

Thanks guys for the comments.

Baxter, after turning this piece and doing the ebony insert I realized I did not have any of the original wood left to do the lid. Thats called planning ahead. Anyway I found a scrap piece that matched as close as possible to the body in color.
