Is there a difference between the Moffat lamp that Packard Woodworks sells and the Stay Put Work Lamp that Craft Supplies USA sells? They look to be the same, but I don't have any experience either.

Packard - http://www.packardwoodworks.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=packard&Category_Code=shopacc-flexlamp
Craft Supplies - http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/store/Shop___Safety___Shop_Supplies___Stay_Put_Work_Lamp ___stay_put?Args=

TIA

Matt, don't know, as I bought mine directly from the manufacturer. Just wanted to say that I like the light, even though the stiff neck of the device could be just a little stiffer. That said, I'll be buying another in the future.

I've got a couple variations of these and they all look made the same.

I bought one off Amazon, under name "Danray", so you can look there.
I got one off ebay that was a Moffatt.

I also found the best price I can find for these in WT Tools, under Cool Shade or "moffatt" in search terms.

When looking the choices over, just be sure you are comparing the same type of base, and that some come with 18" vs 24" flex arms.

I don't expect any significant diff in quality of one over the other...go for price between these sources.

They really are nice vs the 'hot-shade' type of flex arm lamps I used to use.

The ones that I got from Craft Supplies say Moffatt on the light itself.

The lights are the same between Craftsupply and Packard. Both are selling the 24" light with a quick release base. THe only difference is the discount for buying 2 or more...I think Packard was a couple of dollars less. I bought 2 from Craftsupply a couple of months ago and then contacted Moffat to buy a shorter arm (18"). Moffat sells the lights with a variety of lengths (12", 18" and 24"), and different bases (quick release or a variety of fixed base options). As I recall the price to buy directly from Moffat was about $10 more than from Craftsupply or Packard.

The Quick release is the way to go since you can easily move the light from tool to tool and plug into different bases, and beside the flexible / bendable arm the base also allows the light to swivel in a 360 degree circle. With the light comes 3 or 4 different styles of base attachments. The only one that doesn't come with the light is the magnetic base, which is worth buying. There is only drawback to the Quick Release and it has to do with the lamp being seperate from the base...since the light can swivel 360 degrees around the connection point it does not do well when attached to a vertical face. Gravity will cause the light to rotate so that the heaviest part of the lamp is facing downward. The solution is that you connect the base to a horizontal surface and you bend the light's arm down and around.

I looks like the difference is .04cents... .08cents if you include the base.

Sorry I couldn't resist... they look to be the same lamp though.

Happy turning.
