Reminiscent of the 1930's, this pen combines casein (made from milk and was used to make shirt buttons), with Bakelite (an antique plastic).

Jr. Gent rollerball with Rhodium/22K gold plating and casein finial.
Thanks for looking!

I have another version with the opposite colors in progress (casein cap and Bakelite body).

Elegant indeed and perfect craftsmanship. Casein isnt really tough so its probably mixed in with some resin. Have a clue?

Nice work, Joe!! And, great pic setup. I don't do black tie affairs, but for someone that does - this is a great pen! Of course, one could use it anytime, but what a waste!! This one is made for elegance.

Joe,
That is a beautiful piece and creative use of different materials. Makes me want to divert myself to get some of those stunning 'non slimline' kits that just take pen turning to the next level.

Again, beautiful pen, and super backdrop with the sheet music background...Tuxedo Junction...very appropriate.

Where did you get the casein from? Never heard of it.

Thank you. There are several types of casein-based plastics. I'm not sure of the mixture of this particular rod. It turned easily, but seems at least as durable as a polyester resin. Here is some info on the history of casein:

Thanks, Tim. I got both the casein and Bakelite from ExoticBlanks.com, but they are currently out of stock.

Thanks! Here's the other version with the inverse colors. This one is a Rhodium Jr. Retro Fountain Pen with a steel flex nib from Lou Metcalf.
