I am working on a long term piece, and it is in the finishing process. So since I have some "free time" while the finish cures on that one, I decided to turn some NE bowls out of some buckeye burl. This pushed my abilities due to I was out of my comfort zone... I love a challenge. The turning was petty easy... the sanding and finishing was a pain, but I think they turned out well.

The finish is shellac, no wax, and no buff.
Bowl #1 is 10" X 6.75" X 2" Bowl #2 is 7.5" X 1.75"

Bottom bowl #1

Side Bowl #1

other side bowl #1

top and bottom of bowl #2 the side shots didn't come out well.

I guess the bowls would be more art than bowl.

Thanks for looking as alway C&C are welcome.

Pretty wild stuff there, Brian!! I like the rustic look, and of course, the buckeye burl is beautiful. I think I would have liked the first one better if the bowl portion didn't have the "steps" in it. The second one shows very well!

Good job on both, and you got guts!!!

Very nice. I love pieces with natural voids... There's certainly no shortage of those in these two. Pretty cool.

Very interesting!! Looks like that could make one pucker a bit while turning!!

Jim's right, your pucker factor probably hit 9.5, anyway!! Nice stuff. I like the rings, but not too fond of the steps in the bottom of the first one... but they're both pretty darned nice!!

Brain, I just did something like that, and Alan is right about that pucker factor... it's amazing that these pieces actually stay together to the show off stage...... Nice stuff........ Jerry (in Tucson)

Not much comfort in that zone!! Very nice wood, rustic character.
