Last night at my house our local group came over and made handles. I went to Lowes and bought 10' galvinized 3/4 inch pipe. I had them cut it into 2ft lengths for handles. The first picture is the drilling station. Each person drilled two holes for the set screws and two holes for the screen spline. They then went to the vise to tap the holes for the set screws and finally to the lathe to put the spline on the handle. It went really well and everyone was happy with how they turned out.

I used to think i had an imagination, then i came to smc and wow you guys have me beat by a long ways. So many things that can be useful that most people throw away...

What a fun time. I'm a bit jealous. If I could just get my shop cleaned, I'd like to host something like that.:)

Hmmm...maybe I could host a shop-cleaning party.

Looks like fun... I wish I could have been there. I could use a couple of handles like that. The screen spline is a great idea.

Ok, I've got a question... You've got 3/4" I.D. pipe and you can mount 3/8" or 1/2" tools in them, right? What goes inside the pipe? Some sort of bushing? I seem to recall seeing a home-made handle which used compression fittings as a ferrule. I wonder if one could use a comp. fitting to secure the tool in the handle? Hmmm, might still need the set screws.

Wheels are a turnin'......
