I'm sorry, but I'm laughing! 'Can't help it... But when you think about it, why shouldn't someone be able to express themselves even after they move on??

The casket companies have all kinds of theme caskets. Nascar, hunting, fishing etc. Can you picture a #8 or a #24 or even a #3 car casket. How about a camoflauged casket?

Hi Tyler

More than You wanted to know. I think if it's a gas burner, it's a farmall. If it burns Diesel, It's an International. This was true of the 706/806 series, don't know if that carried thru to other models.

We still have a '59 Fordson Power Major diesel in service:

And a '73 JD 310 diesel hoe:

And a '62 Needlenose Pete:

But I'm still looking for that Cub Lowboy with Woods mowerdeck as it's one of the best mowing tractors ever made.....the Fordson with buchhog is a bit unwieldy...at about half the price of one of the new tinkertoys.

Anyone know why the tractor companies stopped making tractors with narrow front ends? & Does anyone know if John Deere sold the manufacturing rights to their 2 cylinder tractors? I think if John Deere would come back with a new line of 2 cylinder tractors, they would sell a lot of them.

Bob.

Think I lived a deprived childhood. You guys on the farm and stomping around in the woods got all the fun toys to play with.

I'd speculate that they quit making narrow front ends when they quit making mounted corn pickers.(I THINK they quit making mounted corn pickers. New Idea was the sole source for a while). Wide front ends are supposed to be less prone to tipping over.

Only pulling (as opposed to utility) tractors had tricycle front ends designed to fit inside a crop row....the rear drive wheels were generally mounted on splined axles and were moveable based on the width of your crop row. Tricycle front ends turned in a fraction of the space wide front ends turned in....requiring less space at the end of the field, hence more crop per acre.

Some later utility tractors like my Fordson above have front axles adjustable for width for the same reason....the rear wheels of the Fordson have two adjustments - rim dish in or rim dish out. The are "in" here and the valve stems are on the inside of the machine.

Today's tractors are all 4WD as they put more HP into traction, making them more efficient. Some have wheels adjustable for width....some you space your crop rows to match the machine....but as the fields have gotten bigger to match the tractor, turning radius isn't the issue it used to be, although these days some are even fully articulated.

JD stopped making "JohnniePopper" two cylinders with the last "L" and "M" series cultivating tractors several decades ago. (We had a "A" plowing tractor and an "LA" cultivating tractor when I was a kid.) Later series tractors like my yellow 310A above from 1973 had 4 or 6 cylinder diesels, also made by JD and some of the finest diesels ever made. They don't sound as nice, but they are much more efficient fuel-wise and maintenance-wise.

I have a farmall super H, 1952. It was my dad's loader tractor, but it isn't
that red, has original paint, kinda pink. Jim

I thought they quit making the tricycle type front ends because it tipped over just by looking at it. Most or at least alot of front ends are adjustable for the width of the rows there working around.

Wow,

That brings back memories! We used to have a few old Farmalls around the farm. Didn't get rid of them because they were wore out. Got rid of them for the new conviences :)

We had John Deere and International tractors when I was farming with my dad and brother (1600 acres owned 400 rented)
When my dad retired from farming I found an old John Deere BR (1926?) for him to restore since then he has restored a JD GP (192?), JD 60 Standard (195?) Minneapolis Moline U, a couple others that right now I can't remember the model number....but the best one, because it was his dad's tractor he grew up with when he was a youngster is a 1926 Huber.

Here is my Farmall Super H, painted her up last year, it's a 1947 and works like the day she came off the line. I've had it almost 24 years.

They stopped making narrow front ends as they were just too dangerous, I can count far to many friends who have lost their lives when the tractor rolled, which is very easy to do if you are not used to them. I keep my rear wheels all the way out with 1,500 pound weights on each wheel and the wheels are loaded so it would take a lot to roll it. Everything is original including the 6 volt generator.
