I finally found some salvage from the monument place that was suitable to build myself a designated base for my basement tool chest.

Not bad for an old guy. ;-)

Now that's what I call recycling.

Nice work, Harry.

Harry that looks great. How do you pivot the wheel assemblies down on the mobile base?

Wow! That's great! The flip wheels look interesting. When you lift the two arms a bit, the board with the wheels can drop down and then the arms lock it?

The only pallet wood and dunnage I find around here is just absolute crap. I think it all comes here to die. :( I think there are some stone cutters and monument makers over in Shawnee county. I should check there!

I also love building things out of reclaimed lumber.

2 hinges screw to the board and each leg. bought a box full from a hdw store closeout, HF casters, there are notches cut into the hinging board to accept the mitered ends of the locking scraps, just a hole drilled in the upper end with a heavy duty ordinary nail for a pivot.
The box is so heavy, I use a scrap 2x4 as a lever with a piece of scrap the right length to lever up one end at a time then move the locking supports into the notches. The trick is to support the legs on 2 small scraps the same height while attaching the hinging board to start with. Most everything in my small shop is on casters or if it needs to not move in use, some sort of mechanism to lower the casters when needed. Mobility is a must in a small shop area.

A couple of pictures to help explain the casters operation.

The small pivot scrap stays with the base. The leverage board has a notch cut to prevent its slipping out when the angle changes.

One side locked in place, the other with a scrap under the leg due to its weight. Notice the small gouge in the top of the caster board to retain the sharp end of the brace.

Hope this helps.
